There are a few things to figure out when preparing to move out of your home. Ask yourself these following four questions to ensure you're ready for your home move!

1. Where are you moving to?
Once you've made the decision to move out of your current home, it's time to think about where your things will be moving to (if you haven't already).
If you're moving directly into another house, it's best to start looking immediately.
Lot's of people procrastinate the home hunt after making the decision to move out, and they wait until after the sale of their home is closed.

Numerous people who have procrastinated their home hunt end up having to book a last minute storage unit to move their items into while they try to find a new place. 2. Do you have a set moving date?
Knowing your moving date is important for two reasons:
First - If you know which day you're transferring your current homes ownership, you know when you need to be out by.
We always recommend setting the move-out date for at least a week prior to give you time to find things you thought you had lost and give yourself extra time incase anything goes wrong with move-out (Like forgetting a box in the attic!)
Second - Having a confirmed date will guarantee that you can lock in your movers! Always book your movers as early as possible to ensure the movers are available.
3. What is your budget?
Always be sure to go over your finances and set a moving budget.
Be sure to consider costs you may encounter to avoid surprises!
Possible moving expenses to consider:
- Cost of movers (Hourly rate + Truck Fee)
Always take the estimate your movers gave you and add 3 hours for worst case scenario.
- Cost of storage unit *if applicable
- Initial Mortgage or Rent payments
- Boxes and Bins for Packing
- Dump Trips *if applicable

4. How much stuff do you have?
Determining how much stuff you own helps us to better estimate your final quote.
Take a walk around your home and take note of all the bed-sets, couches, appliances, desks, dressers, and other large items.
Then, make note of other items which can not be boxed (TV's, paintings/pictures, and other medium sized items.
Lastly, estimate how many boxes/bins you may end up with after packing.

Do you really need all of that?
Get rid of items or furniture that you don't need or want anymore! Sometimes it's hard to let go of things, but other times it's necessary for your transition! Find a place to donate unwanted goods or try selling them to make some quick cash!
